NapWar: Getting Started

Getting started in NapWar is very easy. First sign up and chose a username and password, and  add your email address. Your choice of gender affects your avatar, but other than that makes no difference in-game. You can also chose where you want your first city to be on the game map, but it makes little difference, all the areas are fairly similar. Once your signed in to NapWar, your inbox will contain a few system messages, but they’re not important.

In the bottom right of the screen you’ll see the quest icon. Get started on the quests, they’re the best way to learn how to play the game, and they’ll ensure that your city grows quickly. Most of the quests give good rewards, occasionally they’ll exceed what you expended in completing the quests. However be sure to check the rewards for the quests, and aim to finish the quests that give you the highest amount of resources compared to the cost of completing the quest. In NapWar it’s a good idea to complete the resources quests early on in the game, so that your production is well underway before you need any military units.

Scouts move quickly across the map and are useful mainly for harassing other scouts and performing reconnaissance. Begin exploring the map with your scouts, and occupy any of the Realms of Power that you find (any fortresses, towns, provincial capitals or royal capitals) by doing so your resource production and storage increases.

You’ll want to begin raiding the players around you as soon as they run out of beginner protection, focusing on the weaker, army-less players in particular, scout extensively to find the best targets.  In your first army, you need peasants, they carry loot back when you raid another player, be sure that you have infantrymen with them, as peasants are only good at carrying loot.  The infantryman is effective against peasants, scouts and other infantryman.

With a level 2 barracks you can train billmen, they’re very effective against mounted units (as is standard with spear wielding troops in RTS games). You won’t need many in your first army, as there will be few mounted units around. Train many grenadiers for your first army, they’re effective against all foot units, and will provide invaluable offensive and defensive capabilities early in the game.

This pretty much covers starting out in NapWars, good luck.
