Getting started in NapWar is very easy. First sign up and chose a username and password, and add your email address. Your choice of gender affects your avatar, but other than that makes no difference in-game. You can also chose where you want your first city to be on the game map, but it makes little difference, all the areas are fairly similar. Once your signed in to NapWar, your inbox will contain a few system messages, but they’re not important.

In the bottom right of the screen you’ll see the quest icon. Get started on the quests, they’re the best way to learn how to play the game, and they’ll ensure that your city grows quickly. Most of the quests give good rewards, occasionally they’ll exceed what you expended in completing the quests. However be sure to check the rewards for the quests, and aim to finish the quests that give you the highest amount of resources compared to the cost of completing the quest. In NapWar it’s a good idea to complete the resources quests early on in the game, so that your production is well underway before you need any military units.

Scouts move quickly across the map and are useful mainly for harassing other scouts and performing reconnaissance. Begin exploring the map with your scouts, and occupy any of the Realms of Power that you find (any fortresses, towns, provincial capitals or royal capitals) by doing so your resource production and storage increases.

You’ll want to begin raiding the players around you as soon as they run out of beginner protection, focusing on the weaker, army-less players in particular, scout extensively to find the best targets. In your first army, you need peasants, they carry loot back when you raid another player, be sure that you have infantrymen with them, as peasants are only good at carrying loot. The infantryman is effective against peasants, scouts and other infantryman.

With a level 2 barracks you can train billmen, they’re very effective against mounted units (as is standard with spear wielding troops in RTS games). You won’t need many in your first army, as there will be few mounted units around. Train many grenadiers for your first army, they’re effective against all foot units, and will provide invaluable offensive and defensive capabilities early in the game.

This pretty much covers starting out in NapWars, good luck.

An interesting feature of Fog of War: Napoleonic War is the invention of treasure maps. Treasure maps can be found inside other treasure boxes or found while gathering on a wilderness map square. To decode the NapWar treasure map you need to Appraise it in your Public House. It will cost 10 coins or some vouchers to Appraise a treasure map.

Once Appraised, you will get a new Report come in your “Others” report box. This will say something like:

After appraisal, the location of treasure is in Desert[288,121]. Treasure will be picked after an hour’s gathering. Take action now. It will disappear in 24 hours. The remaining time: 209-11-20 23:32:12.

Then you need to attack and occupy that Desert, and do a gather while your troops are still there. After an hour you can do a Pick and you will pick up the treasure!

When NapWar tells you to act now, you really should. Quite often with NapWar the sands shift and so do the Map wildernesses. There are a lot of people noticing that once they’ve occupied a level 5 wilderness, in a day or two the wilderness will be down to a level 2. Sometimes the levels go the other way too, in the example NapWar wilderness above, it started off as a level 1 Desert, but 10 hours later it was a level 10 wilderness, so was completely unobtainable by any but the highest prestige ranked players.

NapWar Prestige is a NapWar post from: Fog of War: Napoleonic War

Prestige is the main ranking system for Fog of War Napoleonic War. You can gain Prestige in a number of ways. Your prestige will go up when you build or upgrade buildings, when you get rewards from some quests, when you attack wilderness and especially when you attack other players.

Quite often to get into a good alliance, you need to have a certain amount of prestige, to show that you know how to play the game. This might be 2,000 prestige, or might be 5,000 prestige for example. This is a quick guide on how to get 2,000 prestige within 2 days of playing NapWar.

2,000 prestige is easily achieved within 2 days. But you do need to work at it. You will need to keep the NapWar game window open throughout the day, or be able to go in there every 15 minutes or so to check on it and to kick off more buildings/upgrades/technology. If you’re committed to making 2,000 prestige or more within the first 2 days then this is how you do it.

The easiest and best way to get prestige at the start of NapWar is to go through the newbie quests. When you first enter the game and chose to do noobie quests you should familiarise yourself with the screen layout and buttons etc. and then find the NapWar Quest button.

Have a look through ALL the quests on your Quest window. Read through each one and try and find one that is easy to do. Easy quests are ones like changing your heraldry, changing tax rate, doing comforting and levying. One tip with levying is don’t do it in a row. There is a 15 minute cool down on using levys and don’t feel you need to do one straight after the timer runs down. If you wait at least an hour then the loyalty that the levy decreases might have a chance to return. If your NapWar loyalty goes down too much, then your population will leave, and the rest of your city will suffer.

Once you’ve done some of the easy quests, have another read through the quest list and see what needs to be built to win a quest. If you notice in the rewards window, the rewards for building or upgrading a building will be similar if not more than the resources you spent on the upgrade. Building ONLY what is in a quest will mean you will keep getting back the resources spent, so you can keep rolling with building more and more and increasing your city and your prestige.

Keep building, upgrading, researching and most importantly keep checking your quest window and keep clicking down the quests, as there may be a hidden NapWar completed quest that you can turn in for a reward.

Timing is the key when building like this. Watch the timers and try and do upgrades or buildings that have similar times, that way you can leave the NapWar game window for a while and come back after that time to upgrade a different building.

To do the NapWar Alliance quest, a good suggestion is once an hour post in the world chat window saying something like “very active player looking for friendly alliance” or something similar. Try and sell yourself a bit. If you join an alliance that already has 50 players then you’ll get bonus gold and bonus prestige!

If you do all this, and check your NapWar game window every 15 minutes or so then you should be over 2,000 prestige within 2 days of playing.
